Rs. 10.2 lakh interim relief

Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, said on Thursday that a child was injured and 191 houses were damaged in Perdoor-Padigar, Bellarpady, Kujambail and Puttige hamlets in Udupi district. All efforts would be made to provide full relief to the affected, he said.

Speaking to presspersons after visiting some of the affected hamlets, Mr. Madhwaraj said that of the 191 houses, 54 were fully damaged, while 137 were partially damaged. The damage was estimated at Rs. 84 lakh.

Besides this, 18 hectares of areacanut plantations had been damaged, and the loss had been estimated at Rs. 12 lakh.

A temporary relief of Rs. 10.2 lakh had been distributed to those affected. Cement sheets and other items required for rebuilding houses, amounting to Rs. 2.5 lakh, had also been provided. MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake will, on Saturday, distribute a relief of Rs. 36 lakh to those whose houses were damaged.

Those whose houses were fully damaged would be provided Rs. 1.2 lakh under the Basava Vasati Yojane, Rs. 20,000 under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), and Rs. 95,000 under the Calamities Relief Fund.

A temple each had been damaged at Bellarpady and Bommarbettu, he said and added he would talk to the Muzrai Department to see if they could be provided any relief.
