Minister for Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader has said that Dakshina Kannada needs Rs. 1,000 crore to build check dams to store water.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Public Health Centre at Vaddagere in Koratagere taluk on Sunday.

Mr. Khader urged the State government to increase the cost of Yettinahole drinking water project to Rs. 13,000 crore and to allot the additional Rs. 1,000 crore to construct check dams in Dakshina Kannada district.

He said PHCs would conduct free diabetes and blood pressure check-up for patients in the coming days. Electrocardiogram (ECG) machines would be provided to all PHCs in the State, he said.

Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs T.B. Jayachandra said the Yettinahole project has to be implemented to provide drinking water in Tumkur, Kolar and other neighbouring districts.
