State government has released a sum of Rs. 100 crores for paying compensation to farmers whose crops were destroyed in recent pre-monsoon downpour.
Interacting with presspersons at his office on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil said that he had already deposited the amount in the bank accounts of Sindhanur and Raichur Assistant Commissioners.
“This time we won't pay compensation through cheques. We will put it directly the bank accounts of intended farmers. We have already collected bank account details of around 60 per cent of farmers who had lost their crops in the rains,” he said. The compensation would be paid at Rs. 25,000 a hectare of damaged crop, he added.
According to the details provided by the officer, standing crops on around 40,000 hectares of lands have been destroyed during two rounds of pre-monsoon rains.
