Members of the Samata Sainik Dal staged a protest outside the Deputy commissioners’ office here on Saturday demanding that the government roll back its decision on appointing cooks for the midday meal scheme through reservation and urged the authorities to continue the service of the existing workers.

Sanjeev T. Male, district president of the organisation, in a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, said that the government should protect the interests of the workers who had been working for 14 years and regularise their services.

Demands

Mr. Male demanded that the minimum wages for cooks and workers under the programme should be fixed at Rs.6,000 a month and urged the government to remove the existing joint account system between headmasters and head cooks and open a separate account for each head cook.
