Ramesh Jigajinagi, MP and Union Minister for State for Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation, said the ongoing work of a Railway Over Bridge (ROB) at Vajrahanuman Nagar will be completed by October this year.
Speaking to presspersons after inspecting the works here on Thursday, he said that the work was moving at a faster pace and it would be ready for use by October this year.
With regard to another ROB at Ibrahimpur, the Minister said that the work of that project would be inaugurated within two months as the tender procedure was almost completed. “We are hoping to commence the work within two months. I am aware of the fact that there is a lot of traffic congestion happening because of the lack of a ROB. Both projects would bring huge relief to the people of the city,” Mr. Jigajinagi said.
On the demand for an underpass at the ongoing ROB, he directed the officials to ensure an underpass for motorists and pedestrians.
It may be noted that it was the demand of the people to provide an underpass to help local residents. They felt that in the absence of underpass, they had to travel at least half a km just to reach their houses located just behind the ROB. “I have taken the note of the demand and have directed the officials to provide this facility to the residents,” he said.
According to officials, the ongoing work started in January last year at the cost of ₹26 crore on a cost-sharing basis between the State government and the Railway Ministry.
The Minister had come under sharp criticism for not getting the ROB granted even during his last five-year tenure as MP of the district. In the absence of the ROB, people are facing enormous difficulties as they have to wait at the railway crossing till the trains pass.
Even the ambulances have to wait on many occasions when the gate is closed to allow the passing of train.
Former MLA, Appu Pattanshetty and officials of Railway department were present.
