‘It warrants demolition of many houses’

January 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - Mandya:

Residents of Kiranguru near Srirangapatna, who have their houses and shops along the link road of the Bengaluru-Mysuru and Srirangapatna-Bidar highways, have demanded that a bypass be constructed near their village.

The government has decided to develop Srirangapatna-Bidar highway and recently, a survey was conducted to widen the link road.

Survey

However, according to the residents of the village, the authorities concerned had conducted the survey for road-widening project, without consulting over 100 families residing along the link road.

Campaign

On Sunday morning, the residents launched a signature campaign in the village and urged the Union and State governments to construct a bypass near the village, instead of widening the link road that warranted demolition of over 100 houses.

The residents of the villavge said they would submit memorandums to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah against the road-widening project.
