The repair and widening works of one of the worst stretches of the inter-State highway from Putpak village on the borders of the Andhra Pradesh in Yadgir district and Chitapur taluk in Kalaburagi district is in the advanced stages of completion.
Superintendent Engineer of the Public Works Department Shivashankar Gurugunte told The Hindu in Kalaburagi on Thursday that a major part of the has been taken up under the Central Road Fund and the work was expected to be completed by March next year. Mr. Gurugunte said that the work on the 54 km road length providing a link to Andhra Pradesh was being implemented by the National Highway Division and as per the contractual agreement the work, which was awarded in March 2014, should have been completed by September 2015. Some disruption by the villagers on the 16-km Putpak-Gurmitkal stretch over the formation of the road has delayed the project, he said.
Assistant Executive Engineer of the National Highway Division Hanumanth Prabhu, who is monitoring the progress of the work, said that out of the total 80 Cross Drainage (CD) works, 30 have been completed and the remaining were in progress.
Except for the stretch from Gurmitkal to Putpak village, the work of the laying of the road from Gurmitkal to Handarki village and the stretch from Bhimnalli to Chitapur was in full swing. The 4 km stretch from Handarki and Bhimnalli has been completed, he said.
Mr. Prabhu said that the Union government has also given the approval to take up the improvement and widening of the national highway no.150 from Gulbarga to Wadi for the first 19 km from Gulbarga.
