The proposed widening of road under railway bridges cutting across the Outer Ring Road (ORR) will be taken up by the Railway authorities, with funding from the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
The MUDA has made provisions for the work in its budget for 2014-15, which is being taken up under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) at Rs. 59.4 crore. Of this amount, 80 per cent will be funded by the Centre, 10 per cent by the State and MUDA will contribute 10 per cent.
MUDA Commissioner S. Palaiah said in a release that upgrading of the outer ring road from two-lane to six-lane, along with a service road, has been taken up under the JNNURM and about 75 per cent of the work has been completed.
“There are four railway bridges crossing the outer ring road, with each having only one vent to accommodate three-lane traffic. Since the road is being upgraded, the bridges need to be widened,” he said.
At present, traffic from both sides has to move in the existing single vent, posing a danger to commuters, said Mr. Palaiah.
