The flood waters in the Kagina and the Bennethora showed no signs of receding as it disrupted life in many parts of Kalaburagi district on Saturday. Road connectivity between villages and towns continued to be cut off for the third day due to the submersion of bridges and low-level causeways.
The traffic movement between Kalaburagi and Telangana via Sedam taluk on the Waghdhari-Ripponpalli inter-State highway remained cut off for the third consecutive day due to the submersion of a bridge across the Kagina near Malkhed. Chittapur town was cut off from Kalaburagi city with the Kagina flood waters submerging the Dandoti bridge and a bridge near Shahabad on Saturday. This has also cut off the Kalaburagi from Yadgir district.
Although there were no reports of deaths, district-level rescue teams and two units of the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force were working overtime with available resources to rescue people stranded in different parts of the district.
On Friday, the district received an average rainfall of 12 mm which was 39 per cent more than the normal and in the last one week, the district recorded 99 mm rain which was 84 per cent more than the normal. Bidar received 52 mm of rain on Friday which was 398 per cent more than the normal and in the last one week Bidar district received 212 mm rain which was 396 per cent more than the normal. All major reservoirs in Kalaburagi and Bidar districts were almost filled to the brim, except for Karanja reservoir in Bidar which is fast filling up.
