Rider killed, pillion injured in accident

A 32-year-old sheep merchant died on the spot and the pillion rider sustained grievous injuries when they lost control over their motorcycle, rammed into the parapet wall of Richmond flyover on Thursday night. The deceased Kamaal Abbas, was a resident of DJ Halli and was on his way back home, along with his friend Amjad Hussain (42), after attending a funeral of his relative.

According to the police, Kamal Abbas was over-speeding on Richmond flyover which had minimal traffic. They said he lost control while manoeuvring a right turn near the lower ramp close to Chancery Pavilion Hotel, hit the parapet wall and crashed on the road. Since both were not wearing helmets, they sustained severe head injuries. Passers-by rushed the victims to a nearby hospital where doctors declared Kamal Abbas as brought dead.

His body was shifted to Bowring Hospital morgue for post-mortem. The injured Amjad Hussain has been admitted to Bowring Hospital for treatment and is said to be out of danger.

Ashok Nagar traffic police rushed to the spot and concluded that over-speeding caused the accident. A case of accidental death due to negligence and rash and negligent driving on a public highway has been registered.
