Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), which is ready with a blueprint for the end-to-end automation of its operations, will roll out information and communications technology (ICT)-enabled examination management system in its first phase within the next three months.
Outgoing Vice-Chancellor K.S. Sriprakash said here on Friday that this would mean providing Web-based interface for all exam application, including getting hall tickets, announcement of results and availing of scanned copy of answer scripts.
Satish Kumar Varada, consulting director, IT, RGUHS, said that a student, who spends between Rs. 500 to Rs. 600 on exam-related work now, would spend about Rs. 50 once the whole process was digitised. “Students need not come here and waste time in an affiliating university like ours,” Mr. Varada said.
The Vice-Chancellor, who demits office on Monday, said the initiative to create a paperless, digital ecosystem would ensure a “transparent and user-friendly atmosphere” in the university in the changing times.
With 648 colleges and over 2 lakh students under it, this will enable connectivity to save time and money, Dr. Sriprakash said. He added that eventually all affiliated colleges would be able to do most transactions, including seeking affiliation and renewing affiliation, online. The university would move towards digitising even the submission of doctoral thesis, Mr. Varada said. The Vice-Chancellor said that faculty training was also high on the agenda of the university and plans were on to establish a full-fledged training centre for continuous faculty development in educational methodology. Dr. Sriprakash said RGUHS had applied for a regional faculty centre to be set up to train teachers.
MoU for laboratoryHe said that the university had singed a memorandum of understanding with the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute to establish a state-of-the-art laboratory for fundamental and translational research. The foundation stone had been laid for establishing the department of advanced research at Bhimanakuppe, near Kengeri, he added.
Dr. Sriprakash, who was director of the Minto Eye Hospital, was appointed RGUHS Vice-Chancellor in 2011. K.S. Ravindranath, a cardiologist at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, has been appointed the new Vice-Chancellor.
