RGUHS in a fix as govt. seeks transfer of funds for new campus

The State government has pulled up the Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) for not transferring money for the construction of the new campus at Ramanagaram. It has asked the varsity to immediately transfer a third of the funds to the Public Works Department.

The university is in a dilemma as its syndicate and senate had decided to defy the government order to transfer money to the department. The decision was taken based on orders by the Chancellor and Governor, who had asked that status quo be maintained.

In the letter to in-charge V-C, the Medical Education Department has said the V-C would be held responsible for disobeying the order of the government and action may be taken for “in-subordination”. It has also said that he would be responsible for any adverse implications with regard to the ongoing income tax issue.

V. Manjula, Additional Chief Secretary, Medical Education Department, said the letter was written in order to implement the government order issued in May 2016 for the construction of the new campus. “The Public Works Department is ready to take up construction of the campus and the varsity will have to deposit one third of the fund,” she said.

In charge Vice-Chancellor of the varsity, M.K. Ramesh, said he would study the letter and discuss it with his legal adviser.
