Retired policemen to boycott flag day function

March 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - Hassan:

Members of the Hassan District Retired Police officers’ Welfare Association have decided to boycott the Police Flag Day, scheduled to be held on April 2, to put pressure on the State government to fulfil their demands that include a health insurance scheme.

U.D. Lakshmanaraj Urs, president of the association, said in a press release issued here on Friday that for the last four years, a demand was being made for extension of Arogya Bhagya scheme to retired employees and canteen facility to policemen, on the lines of the one available for retired employees of armed forces.

The State government had not responded to the demands, so far. The association members would not participate in the Flag Day programme, he said.

The district association has over 600 members.
