“Restoration of medieval era monuments will be taken up in consultation with professional art restoring agencies,” P.C. Jaffer, Deputy Commissioner, said in Bidar on Thursday.

Agencies such as Indian Heritage Cities Network, Deccan Heritage Foundation, World Monument Fund, Aga Khan Foundation and Archaeological Survey of India will be involved in these efforts, he said. He was speaking at “The Glory That was Bidar”, an international seminar on Deccan heritage.

Studies had been initiated about the monuments and the heritage around it to start the work, Mr. Jaffer said. He said the district administration would work on complying with the guidelines suggested by agencies for conserving and protecting the city, along with the monuments.

Ratish Nanda of the Aga Khan foundation urged the government to take up conservation works with community participation. There could be no conservation without addressing social and economicissues.

Conservation was a way of life, not just fixing monuments. It included conserving culture and heritage, without disturbing the socio- economic balance in the society, he said.
