‘Respect for religions creates harmony’

K.J. George, Home Minister, said on Saturday that people should respect all religions and their religious texts. He was speaking at the valedictory of centenary celebrations of Our Lady of Health Church, here.

Mr. George said that mutual respect for religions would go a long way in creating a society of harmony and compassion. All religions focused on the welfare of human beings and the society. Oscar Fernandes, Rajya Sabha member, said that the church had made a good name by running various educational institutions from kindergarten to graduation courses here.

It was time that it thought of establishing a university here. Shirva had all the potential to be developed as a university town, he said.

Vinay Kumar Sorake, Urban Development Minister, released the souvenir. Fr. Stany Tauro, parish priest, welcomed the gathering. Most Rev. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Catholic Diocese, presided over the function. William Machado proposed a vote of thanks.

Lalaji Mendon, former MLA, Hasanabba Sheikh, President of Shirva Gram Panchayat, Ida Gibba D’Souza, Zilla Panchayat member, Baptist Menezes, Vicar-General of Udupi Diocese, and others were present.
