Residents of Belavadi, Devanuru and Nidaghatta villages, on Friday, staged a protest and stopped Minor Irrigation Minister Shivaraj Tangadgi’s vehicle, taking exception to the alleged delay in completing the Karagada drinking water project.
The Minister was on his way to visit and inspect the progress of the project, when he was stopped by the residents. As the Minister reached Malenahalli, the protesters stopped his vehicle and wanted the project completed at the earliest. They alleged that the contractor was not showing interest to complete the project quickly. The Minister interacted with the officials regarding the status of the project and assured the protesters that the project would be completed in two months. Later, speaking to presspersons, the Minister said there was no shortage of funds for the project. The officials had been directed to ensure speedy execution of the project.
The lift irrigation project aims to provide water to villages in Devanur, Sakkarayapatna and Lakhya hoblis of Chikkamagaluru district, besides a few villages in Belur taluk.
