The rescue operation to save Kaveri, a six-year-old girl who is stuck in an open borewell at Jhunjarwad village of Athani Taluk of Belagavi distric, entered third day on April 24. The incident occurred while she was playing with another girl on a farmland. The district administration began the rescue efforts on Saturday by engaging personnel from the Police and Fire and Emergency Services. Later, personnel from the National Disaster Response Force along with experts from Hutti Gold Mines too joined in the rescue operations. The officials said that they were around five feet away from the spot where the girl is stuck; however hard rock has posed a new challenge.
