Replace Siddaramaiah with Dalit CM, Congress urged

March 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - BELAGAVI:

Various Dalit organisations in the district demanded that the Congress leadership replace Siddaramaiah with a Dalit leader as the Chief Minister of Karanataka, if the party wanted to win the next Assembly elections in the State.

Members of organisations, including the Samata Sanik Dal, the Republican Party of India, the Karnataka Madiga Dondar Samaja, the Dalit Sangarsh Samithi and DSS (Bhimwad), the Karnataka Valmiki Nayak Mahasabha and DSS (Ambedkarwadi), took out a procession in the city and staged a demonstration at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Garden and Rani Channamma Circle in support of a “Dalit Chief Minister”.

The organisers said all political parties in Karnataka had denied due opportunity to Dalit leaders for the Chief Minister’s post, including the Congress which had ruled the State for the longest. It was high time that the Congress leadership take the aspirations of the Dalit sections of the State and appoint a leader from their community at the earliest, they added.
