The framework of religion should be utilised for creating awareness about the good and bad in the society and not for exploiting gullible devotees, the former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has said.
He was speaking at the 12th death anniversary of Sri Gangadhara Rajayogindra Swami of Moorusavir Mutt, who was popularly known as ‘Moojagam’, here on Tuesday. The Moojagam Literary Award was conferred on scholar B.V. Mallapur.
Highlighting the relevance of the views of 12th century social reformer Basavanna, Mr. Shettar said while a lot was being spoken about them, little was brought into practice. On the contribution of ‘Moojagam’, he said the seer had created awareness about social maladies and spiritual enlightenment.
Delivering a special lecture on the literary tradition of Moorusavir Mutt and the contributions of ‘Moojagam’, writer Veeranna Rajur said the mutt under ‘Moojagam’ published close to 600 books which had great literary value. The swami himself authored 30 books and wrote over 3,000 triplets on social and religious issues under the penname ‘Poornajna’. “He is only next to saint poet Sarvajna in authoring so many triplets,” Prof. Rajur said.
Sri Siddarama Swami of Naganuru Rudrakshi Mutt, Belagavi, and Sri Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swami of Moorusavir Mutt spoke on the late seer’s love for literature. Earlier, the former MLC Mohan Limbikai spoke on the life and contribution of ‘Moojagam’. Sri Shivanand Swami of Hundigund Mutt, Sri Basavalinga Swami of Rudrakshi Mutt, member of Moorusavir Mutt core committee Shankranna Munavalli and the former MP I.G. Sanadi were present.
