K.S. Puttannaiah, MLA, on Monday said he had requested Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to pay social security pension to beneficiaries on time.

A large number of aged and physically disabled persons and widows were not being receiving pension on time. Hence, he had requested Mr. Siddaramaiah to resolve this issue, Mr. Puttannaiah said. He was speaking after distributing letters sanctioning pension to several beneficiaries at a ‘Pension Adalat’, organised at Dudda village, on Monday.

Officials and elected representatives can survive if their salaries or wages are delayed. But, people who are dependent on social security pensions have to struggle in case the payment does not reach them on time, he said.

Mr. Puttannaiah lauded revenue officials for identifying 650 people from Dudda hobli for various social security pensions.

Mandya tahsildar B.K. Mamatha said that the Pension Adalat was held to address problems in taking government schemes to beneficiaries’ doorsteps. Eligible candidates will get the benefits of government schemes without any “interference” from middlemen through such programmes, she said.
