‘Release grants for development works’

March 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - YADGIR:

The Dalit Rights Committee has staged a demonstration outside the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here in Yadgir on Monday and urged that allocated grants under Special Component Plan (SCP) and Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) for Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribes be released properly as the development works were hit by the lack of grants in 2014-15.

For 2014-15, a grant of Rs. 11,519 crore was allocated. But, only Rs. 2,878 crore was released. Of the released Rs. 2,878 crore, only Rs. 1,435 crore was utilised.

Owing to lack of grants, development works for the Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribes were not implemented effectively, they said.

Therefore, they asked the State government to take this issue seriously and initiate action against those who were responsible.

Residential schools

They also demanded that more residential schools only for SC and ST students be opened to provide quality education for the children from deprived communities.

As many as 52,000 Devadasi women are there in the State and separate reservation to provide all facilities to them should be implemented, they said.

They submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to the Deputy Commissioner.

S.M. Sagar, district conveyor of the committee, and others were present.
