Janapada singer Durgamma Karadigudda has received the Rajyatsova Award for her contribution to Janapada literature.

From Karadigudda village in Manvi taluk of Raichur district, she has been singing Janapada songs for 52 years now. She also sings Jogula songs, Sobane songs, Beesuvakallu songs and other varieties of Janapada songs. She has no music training. She was awarded the district Rajyotsava Award in 2015.

“It was my happiest moment when I was chosen for the State award for my little service to Janapada literature,” she said.

In 2016, Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Bengaluru, had released audio cassettes of Durgamma’s Janapada songs.
