Narayanappa, cook of the government residential school at Bangarpet, who has been accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old student, and two staff have been suspended from service pending departmental enquiry.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer B.B. Kaveri issued the order suspending Narayanappa, warden Chikkanna and assistant cook Radhamma. Chikkanna and Radhamma have been charged with conniving with the crime by not lodging a complaint with the police. The two were arrested even as Narayanappa is still at large.

Ire against officer

A number of organisations have charged the Bangarpet Taluk Social Welfare Officer (TSWO) M.K. Shashikala with conspiring to hush up the case. BJP and ABVP activists staged a protest in front of the Tahsildar’s office seeking registering of a case under POCSO Act, 2012, against Ms. Shashikala. Cases have already been registered against Narayanappa, Chikkanna and Radhamma.

Ms. Shashikala should also be arrested, they urged.
