Rani Channamma University convocation on May 8

The six-year-old Rani Channamma University will celebrate its fifth convocation in Belagavi on May 8.

D.P Singh, Director, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), will deliver the convocation address, Vice-Chancellor Shivanand Hosmani told presspersons in Belagavi on Saturday. Chancellor and Governor Vajubhai Vala has accepted the university’s suggestion to award honorary doctorates to former judge and Kannada writer Jinadatta Desai and educationist and former MLA Veeranna Charantimath. The university had recommended the names of 10 achievers for the honorary doctorates.

Students will walk away with 10 doctorates, 140 certificates, 2,147 postgraduate degrees and 29,699 graduate degrees. The university has decided to grant D. Litt. to Koduru Venkatesh for his thesis. A total of 61 gold medals will be given away. Pooja Jain, a commerce graduate from Jamkhandi, has topped the university with five gold medals. Seven other students are getting two gold medals each. Students in affiliated colleges will receive 185 postgraduate and 889 graduate degrees.

Pro Chancellor and Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy will preside. Registrar (academic) Siddu Algur, Registrar (evaluation) C. M. Tyagaraj, and others will be present.
