Taking note of the growing criticism about the shoddy quality of Raja Marga and other projects in the city, authorities conducted an inspection to apprise themselves of the work in progress on Tuesday.

Mayor R. Lingappa set a fresh deadline and said works pertaining to Raja Marga, which has come under scathing attack from the public for lack of quality, would be completed by March and no works will be left pending during the next Dasara.

The project is being taken up under the Chief Minister’s special grant and is in vogue since the last couple of years.

Collapse of pillars

Referring to frequent collapse of decorative stones and pillars or balustrades erected as part of the project, the Mayor said it might be deliberate but would be repaired wherever it was found to be damaged.

Changes in report

Former Mayor Sandesh Swamy said there were many changes in the Detailed Project Report pertaining to Raja Marga, but averred that nothing would be left pending and the works would be completed as announced by Mr. Lingappa.

Referring to the proposed concrete roads along the Dasara procession route, the officials said there will not be any fresh digging of the road for laying cables or pipes but a separate chamber would be provided for the purpose.

The road per se would be left intact.

However, a portion of the repairs of New Sayyaji Rao Road from Dufferin Tower will be taken up later as the work pertaining to restoration of Devaraja Market is in the pipeline.
