The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha has appealed to the Mulbagal taluk authorities against allowing quarrying in Devarayasamudra hill tract.
The attempts by some people for quarrying in survey No. 119 in the 1200-acre hill area will cause damage to the environment, the organisation said in a memorandum submitted to the Tahsildar on Tuesday. “Licence should not be given for quarrying in the area”, the KRRS said.
Around 40 villages in the surrounding area get water for agricultural activities. This will be affected if the hill tract was damaged, the memorandum said.
KRRS State unit vice-president K. Narayana Gowda was present.
