Heavy downpour coupled with thunderbolts and gusty winds lashed on Saturday night and wee hours on Sunday, throwing life out of gear in Lingasugur taluk and parts of Raichur taluk.
Gusty winds ripped off over 200 tin sheds and downed over 50 trees and 20 electric poles in the rural areas around Gurugunta in Lingasugur taluk. Two people, Badima and Chandasab, residents of Gurugunta village, were injured when the roof and supportive stones fell on them. After first aid at a primary health centre in the village, they were taken to Bagalkote for further treatment.
Over 50 heads of chicken were also killed in the same village after the tin-roofs of two poultry farms were blown off and fell on the livestock. The farms belonged to Ramesh Naik, a resident of Gurugunta village. A four-wheeler was damaged after a tree and electric pole fell on it at Madikeri Pete area. The power outage caused by the falling of electric poles added to the citizens’ woes.
Deputy Tahsildar Bhanumathi, Revenue Inspector Mahanthappa, Village Accountant Yesu and others visited the village on Sunday morning.
Raichur taluk too received a good rainfall on Saturday night. However, no major damage is reported. As per the information provided by the officials, Gillesugur, off Raicichur and Mantralaya Road, received a maximum of 39.0 mm of rains followed by Yeragera (35.5), Chandrabanda (30.4 mm) Yermarus (30.3 mm), Kallur (28.0 mm) and Raichur (16.0 mm).
The rains that lashed in many parts of Raichur district for the last four days drastically brought down the temperature that was hovering around 44 degree Celsius. The highest temperature of 38 degree Celsius was recorded at 4 pm on Sunday.
