Railway union’s annual general council meet begins

Several employees affiliated to the South Railway Mazdoor Union took out a rally in Mysuru on Monday to mark its three-day annual General Council meeting.

The rally led by General Secretary of All India Railwaymen Federation, New Delhi, Shivagopal Mishra and General Secretary of South Western Railway Mazdoor Union, Hubballi, began from Central Railway Workshop in Ashokapuram here and passed through Ballal Circle, J.L.B. Road and City Railway Station Circle before culminating at J.K. Grounds. The annual general council meeting which began on Monday is expected to continue till Wednesday.

Railway employees have threatened to launch an indefinite strike from November 23, 2015, to press for its demands, said a statement from the S. Mohammed, Divisional Secretary, South Western Railway Mazdoor Union, Hubballi. The demands include wage revision of Central government employees with effect from January 1, 2014, no privatisation or FDI in Railways and Defence establishments or corporatisation of postal services, no ban on recruitment or creation of posts, scrap the new pension scheme and no labour reforms among others.
