In a bid to draw the attention of the Union government and to prevail upon the Members of Parliament to seek Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in the Mahadayi row, pro-Kannada organisations have planned to stage a ‘rail bandh’ across the State on August 27.

Leader of ‘Kannada Para Okkuta’ and President of Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha, Vatal Nagaraj, told presspersons here on Wednesday that “It is time for all the MPs from the State, irrespective of their political affiliation, to make concerted efforts to rope in Mr. Modi to resolve the issue. While the legal battle will continue, these MPs should get the Prime Minister to intervene. There are various precedents to prove that the Prime Minister can intervene in such issues”, he said.

Mr. Vatal Nagaraj said that he would hold talks with various organisations before the ‘rail bandh’. “We will stage a united protest across the State.”

‘Withdraw cases’

Mr. Nagaraj said that while the Chief Minister had promised to look into the issue of withdrawal of cases against farmers and other innocent persons that were filed after violent protests in Navalgund taluk, they would urge him to take a quick decision to withdraw the cases.
