Farmers whose lands had been acquired by Raichur Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) decades ago now demanding their lands back after realising that their acquired lands are not being used for the intended purpose.

Addressing a media conference at Reporters’ Guild here on Monday, Chandrakanth Reddy, president of Land Losers Forum alleged that the APMC was selling the valuable lands to private parties that had nothing to do with APMC's activities.

“APMC had acquired our lands basically for expanding its marketing activities so that farmers of traders of agricultural produces in the region could directly be benefited. Some portions of the lands were however sold out for constructing Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital, BSNL regional office and other purposes. Now, the APMC has sold out as much as 80 acres of its valuable lands at a throw away prices to private parties most of whom had nothing to do with APMC activities,” Mr. Reddy charged. Majority of plots with varying sizes between 2 and acres have been sold out at Rs. 40 a square-foot against the market value of Rs. 800 a square-foot, he added.

He demanded APMC to cancel the recent lease cum sale transaction and return the lands to farmers.

“Over 100 acres of land, excluding the 80 acres of land that was recently sold out, is still laying with APMC unused. If the APMC is not using our lands to intended purpose, we have all rights to demand to return out lands back. We are ready to return the compensation amount with interest,” he said.

To a question, Mr. Reddy said that the land losers would move the Court if their demands were not considered by the concerned administration.

Lakshmidevi, Gopal Reddy, Narasa Reddy, Ravi Patil, Srinivas Reddy and other land losers were present.
