Jayanna, vice president of Raichur Municipal Council (CMC), instructed all employees of the civic body to collectively strive for the success of 82nd Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelan scheduled to be held in the first week of December in Raichur.

He was presiding over a meeting of the sub-committee for decoration, water supply and environment protection (one among over 30 sub-committees formed for organising the Sammelan), held at CMC conference hall here on Thursday.

"We are fortunate that we have got an opportunity to oraganise the prestigious event after six decades. Thousands of people from across the state will arrive in the city to take part in the historic event," he said.

He suggested to further split the sub-committee into three divisions and entrust the responsibility of decoration, water supply and environment protection respectively.

"We need to decorate the entire city. We must ensure that there would be no scarcity for clean and safe drinking water. The cleaning team should be more active with garbage collecting staff and transporting vehicles as garbage gets generated every minute in such mega events," he said.

Pointing at the district administration's initiative to make Raichur plastic-free city, Mr. Jayanna called upon the staff to adhere to the guidelines already laid down.

Mareppa, another senior CMC member, told the engineers to complete all the road-repair works before the commencement of the literary event.

CMC president Hemalatha Budeppa, Commissioner K. Gurulingappa, Sammelana organising committee members Bheemanagowda Itagi, J.L. Eeranna and others were present.
