Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should immediately resign if he had any self-respect in the wake of the “Congress’ U-turn” on the Ordinance on convicted politicians.
Mr. Naidu told reporters here that the intention of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who said the Ordinance was “nonsense”, was to show to the Prime Minister and the people who was the boss. If at all the Congress wanted to stop the process of Ordinance, it could have done it much earlier, he said. Mr. Gandhi, in the process of debunking the Ordinance, had inflicted a severe blow on the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Naidu said. “It is nothing but a tamasha and we pity the Congress which was defending the Ordinance till yesterday,” he said, and added that the belated attack on the Ordinance was a well-orchestrated political stunt to salvage the image of the party.
Mr. Naidu added that the Congress had sought to issue the Ordinance in a hurry to “save” its ally Lalu Prasad.
