Raghu Achar wins in MLC bypoll in Chitradurga

Independent candidate Raghu Achar won in the MLC by-elections here on Monday with a margin of 223 votes by defeating his nearest rival K.S. Naveen of the BJP. Of the total 5,070 votes, Raghu Achar secured 1,917. Naveen secured 1,694 votes and M.A. Sethuram of Congress stood at third place by securing 1,361 votes.

The members of local bodies and elected representatives of the six constituencies of Chitradurga and three taluks of Davangere district come under the constituency.

The post had become vacant after the earlier MLC, G.H. Tippareddy of the BJP, contested in the recent Assembly elections from Chitradurga and won.

Raghu Achar’s term will be for the next two-and-a-half years.
