Members of the Rajput community, who are protesting against the screening of the Hindi film, Padmavati, across the country, took out a protest rally here on Sunday.

The community members, who took out the rally from Durgadabail to Rani Chennamma Circle, shouted slogans against the makers of the film and also burnt an effigy of the actor Deepika Padukone who plays the role of Queen Padmavati in the controversial Hindi film.

The protesters said that there were deliberate efforts to misrepresent history in the film. No one has the right to play with the sentiments of the people over such issues, they said.

“Rani Padmini or Padmavati is a divine personality for the Rajputs. The film-maker, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has depicted the Rani in a bad manner and distorted history. The film should be banned immediately or he has to remove the objectionable scenes which lowers the honour of Rani Padmavati. The Rajputs will not allow the film to release at any cost,” they said.

The local Rajput Samaj leaders Kalusingh Chauhan, Samundar Singh, Subhas Singh Rathode and others led the protest. Meanwhile, members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike extended support to the agitation and participated in the protest rally.
