Qamarul Islam slams BJP for threat to boycott him, three Ministers for Winter Session

November 21, 2014 04:02 pm | Updated 04:02 pm IST - KALABURAGI

In a sharp reaction to the decision of the BJP to boycott the four Ministers in the Siddaramaiah cabinet during the winter session of the assembly in Belagavi, Municipal Administration and Waqf Minister Qamarul Islam said that this only exposed the desperation in the BJP camp and their failure to find any issues against the government to raise in the assembly during the winter session.

“I am not unusually perturbed by the announcement of the BJP and my conscience is very clear and as far as the charges levelled against me I would not like to speak anything now since the issue was before the court…… I will speak out once the issue is settled in the court and the BJP is raising the old issues which have been settled long back in the court”, said Mr Islam and refused to elaborate.

Mr. Islam is among the four ministers who would be boycotted by the BJP during the assembly session at Belagavi and the other three Ministers including Home Minister K.J. George, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and Cooperation Minister H.S. Mahadev Prasad, on the claim that these Ministers were facing serious charges of misuse of office and encroachment of government lands and allotment of houses illegally.

Talking to “ The Hindu ” in Kalaburagi city on Friday, Mr. Islam said that the BJP, which has in its fold the tainted Ministers and a former Chief Minister who spent time behind bars facing corruption and misuse of office charges, have no moral right to speak about corruption. “The BJP government at the centre had brazenly inducted the Ministers facing criminal charges and a person who is facing criminal cases for making a statement that those who does not vote to Narendra Modi can go to Pakistan… 69 percent of the people did not vote to Mr. Modi or BJP have they all been exported to Pakistan….”, Mr Islam questioned.

He said that the BJP which has no other issues to raise against the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah or the government headed by him was making desperate attempts to be in the limelight through the announcements like boycotting the Ministers and “we are not worried about these empty threats”.
