President of Karnataka Development Forum, Patil Puttappa on Tuesday urged Governor H. R. Bhardwaj to intervene to save state’s academic freedom from the hold of “unscrupulous politicians“.

Addressing reporters here, he charged that the academic freedom was being threatened by “unscrupulous politicians as they want to trample on cultural, educational and historical values of Karnataka“.

He criticised the government “for granting 80 acres belonging to Hampi University” to a trust and said the literary and intellectual people was against the move.

The Vice—Chancellor of Hampi University should take up the matter with the government, Mr. Puttappa said.
