The Mysore Grahakara Parishat has urged the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) to monitor the implementation of the tripartite agreement signed by the MCC, Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board and the contractor, Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (JUSCO), to revamp the water distribution system in Mysore under the JNNURM.
Under the agreement, new pipes are being laid to every consumer’s property here. “But, in J.P. Nagar, the new pipes are being installed only for a distance of 1 metre inside one’s property and the new water meter is left on the doorstep. There are no written instructions on what to do next. As the water supply in the old pipeline was turned off, we were forced to run around asking workers what to do. We were then told that it was our responsibility to get the new meter connected to the new pipeline as well as the pipeline going into our house,” said G.L. Nagaraj Urs of MGP.
He said that this inconvenience “violates” terms of the agreement. Mr. Urs said the contract stated that “the contractor had to provide a new line all the way to the customer tap”.
