Progressive organisations here on Friday staged a protest condemning the murder of a youth near Udupi in the name of protecting cows.

Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India, Students Federation of India, Dalit Hakkugala Samiti and other pro-Dalit organisations participated in the protest in front of Hemavati statue.

The protesters said innocent people were being killed in the name of cow protection promoted by communal forces.

“The assaults in the name of cow protection are on the rise. The Congress government has failed to stop such crimes,” Dharmesh, CPI(M) district secretary, said.

The protesters said the police should arrest all those responsible for the murder and those taking the law into their own hands.
