A group of intellectuals and members of several like-minded organisations on Friday staged a protest here against American evangelist Benny Hinn’s convention, scheduled on January 15 at Jakkur Airfield in Bangalore.

Describing Mr. Hinn as a “fraudster”, the protesters requested Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his government to cancel the permission issued for the programme. Mr. Hinn was coming to Bangalore to spread blind faith among people, they said.

The protesters also criticised Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders for adopting “double standards” with regard to “superstitious practices.” They urged the State government to implement the Karnataka Prevention of Superstitious Practices bill immediately.
