Lokayukta P. Vishwanath Shetty has said that a proposal has been sent to the State government for recruiting nine investigating officers for posts that were vacant in the Lokayukta at the earliest.
He was talking to presspersons here on Monday after attending an official meeting.
He said that the institution has been functioning despite shortage of staff, including investigating officers, effectively.
“There were 6,500 cases pending inquiry when I took charge as Lokayukta,” he said and added that only 2,500 cases were pending now.
Mr. Shetty said that the officials have been instructed to implement government schemes effectively and in a transparent manner. Strict action will be taken if there are complaints of irregularities and corruption charges against government employees, he added. To a question on the Anti Corruption Bureau, he said that the matter relating to the formation of the bureau is before court and hence, he could not comment.
The Lokayukta said that the report by Santosh Hegde on illegal mining is before a Special Investigating Team. It can be questioned before the Supreme Court if the inquiry by Special Investigating Team is not to the satisfaction of those concerned, he added.
