‘Proper security must for banks’

January 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - Hassan:

The Hassan police have told all the banks to put in place proper safety measures in their branches and ATM kiosks immediately, or else close them down.

This diktat came from the police in the wake of a bank theft, involving valuables worth nearly Rs. 6 crore that occurred at the Kaveri Grameena Bank at Hirisave in Channarayapatna taluk on Sunday night. Ravi D. Channannavar, Superintendent of Police, Hassan, has directed all his officers to convene a meeting of the representatives of banks in their jurisdiction on Tuesday and issue clear instructions on tackling security concerns. “ We had received a circular from the Home Department immediately after the assault on a woman in a Bengaluru ATM kiosk was reported. The circular was circulated among all banks,” he told The Hindu .
