In case a tree is old, dead or rotting, it can be cleared for cutting only after inspection and proper permission from the Forest Department. Trees cannot be cut arbitrarily as in the past.
A proposal has to be placed before the Tree Authority, which takes the final decision. But, it is difficult to identify weak and unhealthy trees for uprooting as many seem to be healthy.
Though there is no accurate data on the trees, Mysuru has many old and weak trees which require the civic authorities’ immediate attention to prevent untoward incidents.
