Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Friday ordered an inquiry into a leaked audio clip concerning the rape and murder of a Dalit teen in Vijayapura.

The audio clip, containing a conversation allegedly between a senior police official and Dalit activist Bhaskar Prasad, has raised concerns over police apathy in the case and alleged efforts to malign the victim.

On Friday, the leaked audio clip went viral on social media after a Kannada news portal carried a report on it. In the clip, the senior police official is heard allegedly maligning the character of the 15-year-old girl who was gangraped and murdered in Vijayapura town last month.

The Home Minister told The Hindu that he had instructed the DG and IGP, Neelamani N. Raju, to examine the veracity of the audio clip.
