Inspector-General of Police, Central Range, Syed Ulfath Hussain, said an inquiry is being conducted into the allegations of illegal detention and torture of a 14-year-old boy. Based on the report, action would be taken against the Kyatsandra police.

Addressing presspersons after inaugurating Crime Prevention Month at the police grounds here on Monday, Mr. Hussain said that Deputy Superintendent of Police G. Guruswamy was conducting the inquiry.

The 14-year-old boy has been charged with stealing a mobile phone, a television and other material from a car parked on the Siddaganga Math premises on November 21. While in class, the boy’s teacher saw a mobile phone in his bag and questioned him about it. As he did not give a proper answer, the police were called.

Based on an oral complaint by the school authorities, the police allegedly took the boy into custody on November 22.

The police allegedly illegally detained the boy for four days at the Kyatsandra station and tortured him by beating him and subjecting him to electric shock.
