Private school managements on Wednesday took objection to the government circulars on safety and security of students in school issued recently. They threatened not to obey the circulars unless the government engages them through a dialogue.
Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, L R Shivaramegowda, Chairman of Karnataka Private School Joint Action Committee said that the government had resorted to knee jerk reaction, and that it is not feasible for private schools to obey the guidelines. “How can guidelines be framed without consulting managements?,” he questioned.
He also said that school managements would see a 15 to 20 percent increase in expenditure if they had to implement these guidelines.
On installation of GPS and CCTV cameras in schools, Mr Gowda said: “If the government insists on it, we will ask the government itself to transport our children to school,” he said.
The Education Department had issued a 70 point guideline while the police had issued a 11 point guideline regarding safety and security of students after the rape of six year old in a school in Marathahalli. The police have given all schools, including government, private and aides schools, to adhere to the 11 point guidelines before August 30
