Chandrakant Shah, Managing Director of Koramandal Refractionaries Private Limited, Tarihal near Hubballi, has been arrested by Torangal police on the charge of using a fictitious name for a local address to file a petition in the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Chennai, against Epsilon Carbon Private Limited (ECPL), a coal tar plant coming up at Musinayakanahalli in Sandur taluk, and also for instigating people to oppose the establishment of the unit.

Giving this information to presspersons here on Thursday, Chetan Singh Rathore, Superintendent of Police, said that Shah was produced before court and he has been remanded in judicial custody.

Complaint

According to him, the arrest was made based on a complaint lodged by Gurunath, Manager (Transporting and Maintenance) of Koramandal Refractionaries, monitoring the supply of raw material from JSW Steel to his company, against Shah.

Gurunath has accused Shah of using the residential address and voter ID of his friend Parshuramappa to file an application before the NGT against ECPL on May 18, 2015 with a fictitious name and also creating a fake FB account and updating them with misleading information.

Gurunath has, in his complaint, charged Shah with using abusive language and issuing a threat to him [Gurunath] when asked why he had misused his friends address and voter ID.
