In view of the four judges of the Supreme Court holding a press conference in New Delhi recently on administrative matters of the court, leaders of various Dalit organisations and labour unions appealed to President Ramnath Kovind to immediately intervene in the matter and help resolve it.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Malleshi Sajjan, Arjun Bhadre, K.P. Madankar, Sharanabasappa Heruru, Arjun Gobbur, Santosh Teganur and others said that that the incident was a “serious blow” to the faith and confidence the people had in the judiciary.

“People had a great confidence and faith in the judiciary because of its independent nature. The press conference held by the four judges is a serious blow to that faith. The judges apparently had no choice but to go to the press. Given the seriousness of the matter, we seek the President’s intervention to resolve the matter,” Mr. Sajjan said.

Arjun Bhadre, a Dalit leader, spoke.

The organisations have planned to hold a demonstration outside the district administrative complex here on Monday.
