The Legislative Assembly on Wednesday witnessed a heated argument between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and two former Chief Ministers B.S. Yeddyurappa and Jagadish Shettar, when the former blamed the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for the power crisis in the State.
Mr. Siddaramaiah silenced both former Chief Ministers by citing the latest Economic Survey Report. He said the BJP government had not produced “even a single unit of power during their five-year tenure”.
Both Mr. Yeddyurappa and Mr. Shettar refuted the claim saying the power situation had improved with over 4000 MW of power added to the central grid. They alleged that the Chief Minister was making vague allegations for political reasons.
Mr. Siddaramaiah stood by his claimsaying the BJP government had not produced a single MW of power in the last five years through Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd. (KPCL). “The BJP government encouraged private sectors to produce power and purchased it from them by paying heavy price,” he countered.
To substantiate his argument, he cited the Economic Survey Report presented by the BJP government during the budget session. “It is not my interpretation, but a proven fact,” he said.
Mr. Siddaramaiah said once projects in the pipeline are completed, the power situation would improve and pending projects would be completed.
He promised to utilise Rs. 10,000 crore towards completing major irritation projects to improve the condition of the farming community.
