Pourakarmikas of the Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC) working on contract basis staged a protest outside the municipal office here on Monday, demanding that their pending salaries be paid immediately.
The Mandya municipal council has 35 wards and 90 permanent pourakarmikas. It has also hired 185 pourakarmikas on a contract basis, who have allegedly not received their salaries for the last four months.
About 50 pourakarmikas, who participated in the protest, raised slogans against the municipal council and urged it to immediately disburse their salaries.
The civic authority should pay salaries on a specific date in the first week of every month, they said and warned of carrying on with their agitation, if their salaries were not disbursed immediately.
M.B. Naganna, N. Nagaraju, Palaniswamy, K. Manjunath, B. Nagaraju, Satish, Ammaiamma and Sathyamma were among the pourakarmikas who participated in the protest.
