Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar has said that though around one lakh personnel, including teaching and non-teaching staff, were required for departments of Public Instruction and Pre-University Education in the State, the government was unable to fill these posts owing to financial constraints.

He was speaking after inaugurating a State-level convention of Karnataka Shikshana Padaveedharara Sangha, an organisation of D.Ed., B.Ed., M.Ed., B.P.Ed., and M.P.Ed. degree holders here on Sunday. He said at present, the vacant posts created following retirement of physical education instructors and group ‘C’ and ‘D’ employees at government primary and higher primary schools were not filled because of economic austerity measures. More than 30,000 teaching posts are vacant in government schools and PU colleges, of which 12,000 posts will be filled shortly, he said.
